Finding Your Way Home through COVID

Just when I thought my life was settled, everything changed when Cody came into it. He was supposed to be my foster dog for just three weeks, until my older son could take him after getting him fixed and healthy. But then COVID hit, and those three weeks stretched into three months of lockdown, with just Cody and me. During that time, we formed an unbreakable bond, and I can truly say that he got me through the pandemic.

Since then, Cody has become more than just a companion: he’s my purpose, my reason to keep going. Rescued from a tough life in the projects, he was searching for love and care, just like I was, though I didn’t realize it at the time. Now, he’s my constant companion and best friend.

People often say that I saved Cody, but the truth is, he saved me.

It only goes to prove that so-called ‘fantasy’ is reality catching up with it!

But to those with an imagination – or, should I say, an understanding of reality – they are always in tandem.

A Horse Called Honey

When Robyn’s horse Honey was visited by the vet, he noticed some of Honey’s teeth had been eaten away by germs because she hadn’t been cleaning her teeth properly!

When Honey was told she would lose two teeth because they hadn’t been kept clean, she was cross with herself. And then when she had to have them removed… she was cross again, and in pain!

Do you clean your teeth properly, so the dentist won’t have to drill them or remove them?

It only takes a few minutes each night to start the teeth cleaning process, so who wants to be like Honey?

A Duck Called Francis

Francis was just a normal everyday duck. He went to school, he played with his friends, he loved his family and he just loved being a duck!

But he got very dirty when he played outside and sometimes, when he came back inside to have lunch or dinner, he forgot to wash himself. Most of the time he was lucky that no dirty germs gave him an infection – but one day, when he came home after playing in the mud, Francis forgot to wash!

The next morning, he woke up with a swollen face and such a sore head. When the doctor came to fix him, he told Francis and his mother something very interesting!

A Sheep Called Mo

When we are growing up and hearing mums, dads and teachers talking to us, there are so many other things happening at the same time, like playing and eating. Sometimes, although we hear them talking, we don’t actually listen.

Mo heard his father say ‘don’t wander too far away from the farm,’ but he didn’t really listen to him, so the day came when Mo had wandered so far away from his home that he became lost!

A Rabbit Called Sneeze

A young rabbit called Sneeze experienced an emotion called ‘fear’ when some hunters fired their guns near his home.

His parents realised that he hadn’t felt scared like that ever before, so they spoke to him quietly and warmly, and told him how to handle fear.

We will all feel scared some time in our lives, scared for ourselves or for our family and friends, so it’s something we should all know how to handle and to know what the safest thing to do about it might be when it happens.

A Lion Called King

King was a handsome lion who had raised his family like a good father, and he had learnt the meaning of respect in his many years in the jungle.

When some younger lions decided they liked all the things that King had gathered in his life, and wanted them for themselves, King had to teach them that you just can’t come into someone’s life and think you can take their things, their homes and scare their family without asking.

King made them learn and understand the life lesson of respecting each other.

A Hen Called Pecker

Pecker was a happy healthy hen living on a farm with other chooks when she noticed the others didn’t share their food, just jumped in, and ate as much as they could without thinking that some of the smaller and younger chooks might not be getting enough of the food.

When a young hen became weak and sick one night, because she wasn’t getting any food and missing her mealtime snacks, Pecker decided to teach the other chooks the meaning of sharing.

What do you think happened when she tried to get all of the other chooks to share the food the farmer gave them?

Did they just keep on eating as much as they could for themselves, or did they change their ways and start to share?

A Cow Called Larry

Larry lived alone on a pretty farm.

She had everything she could want, green grass, cool water, lots of hills to roam, and she could do whatever she wanted each day! But she didn’t have any friends.

When a big noisy truck came one day and twenty cows joined her in the paddock, she was overjoyed and so excited to have some company!

Then she showed them how important friends are.
